According to a survey done in 2011, Carnival Cruise staff on UK ships are paid well below average, they are paid $1.20 an hour, or 400$ a month basic wage. These workers lose their tips which make up roughly 15% of their wages if they don't achieve a favorable customer rating of at least 92%. The wages they earn are well below the minimum level recommended by the Joint Maritime Commission of the International Labour Organization which was set at $555 a month for salaries paid after January 1, 2012. here, but this is rediculous when you put into account that Carnival raked in a whopping 2.2 billion dollars in 2011.
hmm, maybe the cruise line is claiming they get room and board so they don't need it? I don't agree with that argument but I could see them claiming that.
ReplyDeleteThat is probably what they're saying, they're not even hitting the minimum recommended wage. Whats even worse the fact that their bosses are regulating their tips, when tips should be regulated by the customer, you don't like your service you don't tip. Most people don't even rate their servers/cabin cleaners
DeleteThe tips that costumers give should go only and only to the staff, just like in strip bars.
ReplyDeleteExactly, the management shouldn't deal with tips, if the employee didn't do a good job, they wouldn't be getting a tip
